Sports Report: Summer 2019
Well here at last the last term before the Summer break and it has proved to be an exciting one. This term we have been training in athletics track and field and also covered cricket for the boys and rounders for the girls. Preparation for Sports Day is building and all the children and very excited. They have all prepared for their events and I look forward to a good competition amongst each house.
We played against Oakwood the U9's cricket match and fractionally lost, however James Williams (Captain) had a terrific performance and was awarded Man of the Match. Well done James. Equally the rest of the U9 team did very well too and they all should be proud of their performances.
On Saturday 27th April three pupils from Class 6 competed in The Hazelwood Triathlon held at Hazelwood School, Oxted. All three students gave outstanding performances. Cerys Spilsbury came 1st in her age group, Joshua Gerber came 3rd and Arthur Wilson came 4th. They all showed determination and strength of character in their performances; for the boys this was their first triathlon and showed great promise in the event. Well done to all three of you.
The next event we attended was the Annual Charity Swimathon at de Stafford pool in Caterham. It was a sponsored event raising funds for The Lions and a charity of our choice which was "Make Some Noise" and the WPS Sports Fund. We raised £60.00 for Make Some Noise", and £25.00 for the WPS Sports Fund. The children who took part were Cerys Spilsbury, Annabelle Lavin, Thomas Lavin, Alfie Woodvine, Harrison Derbyshire and Emma Moody. In 25 minutes they completed 46 lengths of a 25m pool in total. Each pupil swam 50m and then tagged the next person in their team, in a relay. It proved quite exhausting but Mrs Fraser and I were very proud of all 6 of the pupils. They all did incredibly well and did Warlingham Park School proud. Their behaviour and sportsmanship were exemplary. Well done everyone.
Lastly Mrs Hamilton-Patterson and I took four children to Soccer Aid for Unicef 2019 at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea on Sunday 16th June (Fathers Day). Arthur Wilson, Joshua Gerber, Cerys Spilsbury and Liam Hamilton-Patterson all attended. Once again they all had a super time and enjoyed watching and experiencing a live match at Stamford Bridge.
On Tuesday 9th July we have a Inter-House swimming gala at Woldingham School. Each team will be performing the front crawl and breast-stroke in the 25m pool. It is sure to be a lot of fun and we do have a number of competitive swimmers in the lower and upper juniors, so good luck everyone.
Since joining last September I would just like to add how impressed I have been with everybody's enthusiasm and hard-working ethic that has got them where they are now. There have been some impressive outstanding performances as well as great improvements from others across the year groups. I am looking forward to what next term holds for us as a school. Class 3 will be joining the juniors next term, all of which are a talented class, and I look forward to teaching them and getting them involved in the U9 fixtures.
Lastly, I would like to wish all of class 7 all the best for the future. Annabelle Lavin, Caitlin Nolan, Oliver Derbyshire, Albi Buckman and Joe Silverman, you have all played an important part in the U11 teams and I hope you continue to pursue your love of sport in your chosen secondary schools.
