The mood was electric at the O2 arena as Warlingham Park School joined the 7000 strong Young Voices Choir on Tuesday this week. The children’s hard work practising the repertoire paid off as they sang beautifully from the opening song ‘Singing Together’ until they finished with a funky Stevie Wonder Medley, accompanied by a live band and the the Urban Strides Dance Troop. This was also new music teacher Mr Clark’s first trip to the O2. He was blown away by the uplifting atmosphere of the concert and is already counting down for next year’s concert, which will be Warlingham Park’s twelfth year running. Other highlights of the concert were 'Africa' which started with the sound of a huge rainstorm and of course, the parents versus children ‘90s throwback’ dance off!

School news
What a busy week it has been. Alongside all the academic learning we have had Christmas activities, school trips and even a visit from Father Christmas today. The children were delighted to see him and all received an advent calendar. Every class had the opportunity to visit the 'Secret Santa Shop' and our thanks go to The Parents Association for organising this lovely festive event.
Class 1 and Class 3 thoroughly enjoyed their trips to the Polka Theatre this week and have written some super pieces of work about their experiences.
Well done to all our pupils who took part in the Warlingham Green Christmas Lights event last weekend. It was lovely to see so many of pupils attending, despite the weather and you represented our school (as always) with pride and enthusiasm. Thank you to all the parents who supported the event. We have received many compliments on their beautiful singing.

Under 11 Matches v Collingwood

Football  Won 4-3    Scorers: Conor Maguire (3), Thomas Jerrom Player of the match: Conor Maguire

Netball  Lost 12- 14   Shooters Tiffany Weaver, Cerys Spilsbury. Player of Match Aidan Moore

This was a close match against a team of mostly year 6 girls.  There was visible improvement in our teams play as the game progressed.  At the start of the final quarter we were losing 6 -12 but they never gave up and played some excellent netball to pull back to 12-14. I was very proud of them all.

Next Monday we have matches against Burys Court 2.30 at home.  Football is Under 9 and netball is Under 11 - our Year 6 are out on a trip so our younger players will be playing against the Burys Court U/11's which will be a stiff challenge but good experience.

This weeks matches on Monday 23rd November U/11 Netball & football Home v Collingwood 2.15

Last Sunday, pupils from Class 7 laid a wreath on behalf of the school during the Remembrance Service at Warlingham Green on Sunday, joining a number of other local groups and ex-servicemen taking part in this special occasion. In their lessons they have been learning about the World Wars and it is fitting that the school joins with the local community to remember all those who gave their lives in conflict.
Class 6 and 7 have been busy making lanterns today for the Warlingham light switch-on this weekend. We look forward to
hearing our pupils delight with their singing after the procession.

Pupils are working hard in all subject areas and music lessons are particularly busy with the focus now on the Christmas nativities, Christmas concerts and carol services. As always, the children are showing great enthusiasm and energy in their singing and acting and this is also mirrored with their studies and extra-curricular activities.

Class 6 had an exciting and informative visit to Emmanuel Church this week where the 100 Year Mystery Story they have been reading about was brought to life! The children really enjoyed finding out about the church and it's history first hand with a wonderful tour and informative talk. Our thanks to Kristy Thompson, parishioner of the church and former teacher at Warlingham Park for her time spent with the children.

School news
This week saw the start of the Chess Club. It proved to be very popular with the children so Mr Stevenson will now be running two lunchtime sessions, on a Monday and Thursday.
Congratulations to the U10 Netball Team who played marvellously well at a home match against Essendene Lodge School and won 6-0! Well done to all the team, Toyin Bamiro, Caitlin Nolan, Annabelle Lavin, Emma Moody, Rana Sonday, Cerys Spilsbury, Alice Wood, Freya Hall and Alexa Haslock. Players of the match were named as Rana Sonday & Annabelle Lavin.
Congratulations also to the U10 Football A Team who beat Essendene 6-0 this week! The player of the match was awarded to Harry Gravett. Well done! The B Team drew 4-4 against Essendene and all played extremely well.
On Monday all the juniors were involved in a cross country relay challenge please click here to view the results.

We congratulate all our pupils on the sporting achievements this week, especially the netballers in what for many of them was their first ever match.
The start of the week saw fun but competitive Parents vs Children Netball and Basketball matches. The  children certainly made the parents work really hard for their resulting win! In spite of handicapping the parents by making them catch one-handed they managed to beat the younger team (infants and youngest juniors) 2-0, and the older children 4-0.  No inch was given and it was to the children's credit that they kept the scores so low. The children took away some great learning and this were reflected in the matches against Essendene on Friday where they had all improved and raised their skill level. Thank you to all the parents and children who took part in the matches.
This week, Halloween fell on the same day as forest school, so it couldn't be ignored! Children could choose to make a broom or spider's web and everyone who wanted to, had a go at using the flint and steel to create sparks to set fire to a ball of cotton wool. They put some Vaseline on it so it would burn for longer, giving them enough time to toast a marshmallow on –yum!

Warlingham Archery
The Warlingham Archery Club shoots on the school field every Sunday in the year. Once a year we also host the annual Surrey Clout. A clout is where the archers, instead of shooting at the customary  target of coloured rings, shoot a long distance, a diagonal over the large field, in the attempt to hit, or get close to, a target flag. To do this they shoot the arrow in an arch, Agincourt style, which requires some skill.
This year, on August 19th, we had over 60 archers taking part coming from clubs in Surrey, Sussex and other home counties, and even from Southampton and the Midlands. The Chairman of Warlingham Park School shoots the first arrow to open the event. We were even entertained by the jet fighters from the Biggin Hill Air Show on the same day.

Mr Stuart Sexton
Chairman of the Trustees

Mrs Stephenson would like to thank all of you for persevering with Tuesday's weather conditions and supporting the school in completing sports day.  In spite of the difficult weather the children rose to the occasion and we had some terrific performances - a dead heat for 1st place in the girls sprint between Jessica (C7) and Rachel in (C7) and also in the boys sprint between Jonny (C7) and Thomas (C6).  The performance of the day though went to Harry Gravett  (C4)in the 60m sprint. He broke the record previously set in 2006 by Tyler Lawrence in both his heat and final.
Mrs Bedingham would like to report the success of her profile judgements that underwent inspection form an Early Years Moderator last week.  She was delighted with the resulting report which stated that the system was the best the Moderator had ever seen, providing excellent knowledge of the children's development, in addition to the fact that 83% of the pupils in Class 1 have achieved a good level of development, compared with the Surrey average of 70% and the National average of 60%!
The week ahead
Preparations for the end of term are now upon us.  There is plenty still to come so do please refer to the forthcoming dates listed below to help keep you on track!

There is a rehearsal for Speech Day on Thursday 6th at 2pm.  Please can you ensure that your child is in full uniform on that day.  Class 7 are organising a 'Vintage Tea Party' for the teachers and staff after school  in the Sexton Hall.  There may well be some setting up during the day. We would ask that you try and encourage your children away from the area (exciting though it is!) as it is an opportunity for Class 7 to organise 'a surprise' thank you to the school.

There is a taster morning running for Class 1 starting in September on Friday 7th July.  The Parents Association have kindly offered to host coffee in the library.

A reminder also that Class 7 have also invited you all to their 'Business Game Cake Sale' from 3.15pm-3.45pm in the Sexton Hall on that afternoon.  We would recommend bringing 60p to make your purchases of classic bakes from 'Gateau Corporations', 'Le bleu boulangerie', 'Yummy!', 'Holterman's Bakes' and 'Pastelas Fabulosas'.
