Class 7's Wales Adventure 2011

Day 1 Monday 13th June

The Wales 2011 team set off from WPS early in the morning and overcame the perils of the M25. A smooth journey brought them to the mountains of Wales and the comfort of their luxurious cottages, which will be home for the coming days.

A visit to CAT provided them with a pizza supper and then a chance to learn about alternative technology (and enjoy the adventure play area!!).

Day 2 Tuesday 14th June

The girls were up bright and early this morning to greet their first full day of activities in Wales. The boys weren't!

The Wales 2011 team headed off for a ride on the Talyllyn railway before trekking upstream to explore the Dolgoch Falls. Unfortunately, recent heavy rain had swelled the river flow and various challenges to cross without falling in had to be abandoned.

After lunch, the party headed through mountainous terrain to enter into the magical world of King Arthur's Labyrinth, set in a vast old slate mine.

Food is ever-present on everyone's mind (particularly the party leaders!) and a BBQ on the beach as the sun set was an ideal end to a particularly busy day.

We will see who makes it to breakfast tomorrow without needing a wake-up call!!

Day 3 Wednesday 15th June

After two days of good weather, we expected it to turn against us today. Whilst water-proof clothing was the fashion for the day, it didn't prevent us keeping to our schedule.

The morning visit to the Centre for Alternative Technology explained how solar energy worked and showed us how to harness it. Incredibly, even though it was raining, it was possible to heat water using only the power of the diffused light.

After a civilised lunch around the dining table in the headmaster's barn, we set off to Animalarium where we had close encounters with a variety of reptiles. The linxes and the monkeys were popular attractions - as were WPS children to the animals!!

Swimming in the evening left the team with hearty appetites, satisfied by fish and chips in the park.
