Monday June 14th

Day 1

Class 7 arrived in Wales after their long trip through the heart of England.  They were pleasantly surprised when they explored their 5 star accommodation situated in isolated farm land.  Hunger soon got the better of them as they explored the play area at CAT   Supper was followed by an evening spent experiencing the hands-on centre.  An early night…..????

Day 2

Five bleary eyed children slept in this morning - some needing waking for breakfast! Then it was off to CAT to learn about solar power. After a sumptious lasagne lunch (thanks, Mrs Cave) at base, we ventured off to Animalarium, where we were amused by an angry monkey and met Beatrice the Boa. In the evening, the glorious sands of the Dyfi estuary provided hours of kite flying and paddling, whilst the barbecue was lit and supper cooked.

Day 3

A heavy cloud hung over the group this morning as last night's sad funeral of Shelley the Crab remained in our minds. However this soon passed once we set off for our Tallylyn railway trip. The walk to Dolgoch resulted in many wet legs bt a lot of laughs. It was agreed that ice creams were a suitable reward for all the hard walking. From the top of one mountain we then descended into another one!king Arthur's labyrinth proved a popular experience. The packed day ended with some swimming and water slides, followed by fish and chips in the park.

Day 4

Success in yesterday's challenge resulted in a pleasant surprise at breakfast - pancakes for all. However, even this wasn't enough to wake up any of the boys on time! The venue for the morning was CAT, where bracken was beaten in a meadow. This was followed by the much-feared hooded adventure. All the children conquered their fears and suceeded in completing the course with great determination. Making automata and visiting the rabbit village completed the afternoon. Everyone left Machinations clutching their working guitarist models. To complete the day we visited the farmhouse to meet our neighbours and enjoyed our barbeque in the sunshine.

Day 5

During our visit to the farm last night the children enjoyed helping feed the sheep and putting the chickens to bed.

Once packed up this morning, we left Cefn Coch Farm behind us, facing the hairpin track for the last time. Would the school bus survive to get us home? 'Isn't England flat?' was the question of the moment. We were joined for lunch at Ironbridge by a large brown rat which looked enviously at our food. After lunch by the bridge itself, we made our way to the Engenuity museum. The mysteries of engineering were explained through a range of hands-on activities. The first rain of the week greeted us as we passed the Midlands. However, motorway traffic delays added to the frustrations of the poor England world cup result. After 750 miles of trouble-free driving, we were stuck for two hours on the M25 at Reigate!

Throughout the week we all learned a great deal - not only factual but also about ourselves. Everyone has stories to tell and has achieved things to be proud off. Wales 2010 has been another hugely successful adventure.
