May Day Celebrations
Warlingham Park School -- May 1, 2008 --

Children mark the start of summer at Warlingham Park School with May Day celebrations.

May Day was celebrated in traditional fashion this week at WarlinghamParkSchool

with the entire school taking part in a morning of music and May Pole dancing that harked back to a bygone era of early Summer festivities.

The children elected a May Queen and, with a modern twist, a May King to lead the celebrations.  The children from the lower school demonstrated their skills around a May Pole adorned with coloured ribbons and flower decorations.

Mike Donald, Head Teacher of Warlingham Park School commented, “The children had great fun celebrating May Day, learning about one of our more ancient village customs. The May Pole dancing seemed to appeal to the boys and girls of all ages.”

May Queen (Ella Donald) and May King (Harry Kerr) are pictured with the May Pole dancers.
