Cake Day Friday 2nd July Summer Fair and Car Boot This Saturday is our school’s Summer Fair, 11am–3pm. Come and enjoy the day. The Friends of WPS rely on your help to make the fair a success. Please spare us a half hour and help out at your class stall. A class rota should be up on your classroom door, put your name down as a willing volunteer to help. Or just turn up and get stuck in! Get Well Diamond the Pony Unfortunately Diamond the pony who was coming to the fair will not be able to attend and give the children pony rides as she is unwell and has been quarantined. Raffle Prizes and Tombola Bottles Thank you for all your kind donations. Tables and Chairs Wanted We need plastic garden tables and chairs for use at the refreshment area at the Fair. Please bring them to the school on Friday or to the Fair on Saturday.
Pre-School Musical Morning Pre-school parents are invited to watch their children take part in their Summer Musical Morning, on Thursday 8th July at 11:15 am. After the children return to class coffee will be served. Do stay and have a chat. (The more observant of you would have spotted the change of date and time!)
Speech Day This year’s Prize Giving and Concert will take place on Wednesday 14th July at 1.30pm. Our guest speaker will be Ms Susie Cornfield who has written a number of children’s thrillers and other story books. All parents are invited to attend this special event, but I would ask you to note that numbers of seats are limited. Pupils will be required to wear school blazer for this event. Pullovers will not be needed. Please note: This event is not suitable for younger children.
Parents’ Quiz Night 25 people put their thinking caps on for the Quiz Night last Friday evening. The Wine Round was a real smash, although some people did seem to need to have extra helpings in order to help them make up their mind! The team called "Over the Hill" won – well done to Mrs Winter, Mrs Daly and Sally (from the Nursery) who were all in it. It was lovely to see that a 17 year old past pupil had enough general knowledge to be in the team that came second! A great big thank you to our Quiz Masters Andy and Jacqui.
Pre School visit Christmas Tree Farm Pre School 1 went to Christmas Tree Farm on Monday. Outside we saw goats, ponies, pigs, geese, ducks, chickens, donkeys, llamas, sheep and a VERY LARGE turkey. Inside were the babies – rabbits, ducklings, chicks, guinea pigs and ferrets. The sun shone and we all enjoyed our morning with these lovely animals. Mrs. Moore Sports Day This was my first sport’s day as a parent of a child in the Infants. Last year in Pre-school was a delightful event but this year it was on a whole different scale. I couldn’t believe how many events the children did. I expected the egg (potato) and spoon race, the running race and the obstacle race, as I once was a primary teacher myself and have had to take part in a few sports days. But I did not expect our youngsters to start out with a relay race, most running a full lap before passing on the baton! Not to mention stilt racing, ball hopper races, long jumps, throwing and tug of war! What an amazing array of events for such young children. They all had a go and enjoyed themselves, which speaks volumes for our great little school. Congratulations to St. George’s House who pipped St. Patrick’s by 5 points. Well done to St. Andrew’s and St. David’s. I am sure I speak on behalf of all parents there, when I say we had a wonderful afternoon and each one of the children made us proud. (And that is not the Pimm’s talking either.) The editor For newsletter photos, please contact me on jennai@blueyonder.co.uk with your requests.
