Cricket in Kenya 25th March 2010 Mr. Donald is flying out to Kenya just hours after term ends. He will be leading a charity project promoting Aids awareness as well as coaching cricket. Those interested should be able to follow the project at www.travelblog.org/Bloggers/CWB-kenya-2010. To aid Mr Donald in this amazing venture Class 7 have been running their Tuck Shop in order to raise funds. They have managed to raise £15 and with Gift Aid that brings the total to £19.23. Well done Class 7 and all the very best of luck to Mr. Donald! If you wish to make a donation to this cause you may through www.justgiving.com/mikedonald
Pre-School Parents’ Music and Movement On Friday Pre-School parents were invited to watch their three and four year-olds take part in a dynamic, Kodaly style session, run by Mrs King. The children all looked very cute, and enjoyed their parachute finale. Parents were also treated to a preview of some of Class 6 & 7’s Bugsy Malone songs.
Kodaly Music Mrs King is trained in the Kodaly style of teaching music. The British Kodaly (pronounced Kadai) Academy say that “Engaging in singing and Kodaly orientated musical activities leads to a marked increase in the powers of concentration, a rise in levels of achievement and an increase in social harmony.” So keep up the good work Mrs King! WPS Cross Country The weather was perfect for the 130 or so runners who attended this year’s WPS Cross Country race, the only one held every year for local schools thanks to the efforts of Mr. Donald and his team! Our runners produced excellent results this year. The boys finished 5th and the girls came 4th, both out of 12 participating schools. Individually, the first WPS boy and girl were Sid Kerr who came 8th and Amy James who was 9th, both in races with over 65 runners! Thank you to all the helpers and Mrs.Cave for the snacks and drinks.
Bugsy Malone – “A Triumph!” The final curtain came down on Bugsy Malone on Friday, to riotous applause. Classes 6 and 7 managed to give a polished performance that lasted one and a half hours. Thanks go to Mrs Taylor, Mrs Samuels and Mrs King, without their tireless dedication the show definitely could not have gone on!
Penshurst Place Class 5 enjoyed an outing to Penshurst Place where they saw various characters preparing to fight the Spanish Armada of 1588. Some extracts from the children’s accounts: ‘The Spanish prisoner was one of my favourite actors. When he said “Sir Francis Drake” he spat on the floor.’ ‘Next we saw the Barber-Surgeon. He put a hole in my head to let the devil out because I had a headache.’ ‘The lady’s maid showed us what she wore under her dress. Mr. Donald wasn’t allowed to look!’ ‘I enjoyed my day at Penshurst. I would go again.’
Wildwood Mrs Riviere and Mrs Chellingworth took Class 2 on a trip to Wildwood near Herne Bay. They all had a wonderful time, seeing the animals, and acting them out in their habitats. The wolves made a big impression!
Class 3 visit Fishbourne Roman Palace To finish this term’s study on the Romans, the icing on the cake was a visit to Fishbourne Palace to see how the Romans did live. They spent the day learning about Roman history, clothes, food and lifestyle. They also looked closely at the famous mosaics. It was a most interesting day.
Big Schools’ Birdwatch Earlier this year Class 2 took part in the Big Schools’ Birdwatch They have just received their certificate for taking part and the results of their efforts. For the second year running, the blackbird is the UK’s top school bird, with 85% of participating schools reporting seeing them visiting their grounds. Among the top 20 birds seen by schools are rooks, jackdaws, carrion crows and magpies, the brain boxes of the bird world! Well done Class 2!
Fitness, Fantasy & Fun On Monday, Fitness, Fantasy & Fun Club’s final meeting was fast and furious! A Parents’ Team was invited to challenge the children in a variety of activities, one of which included being blindfolded. The last game of Spies (lots of ball dodging in a confined space) ended in a narrow victory for the Parents’ Team, who definitely played by the rules at every moment!!
HELP URGENTLY NEEDED! Saturday 27th March 10am–12 noon Parents’ needed to help prepare the Infants’ Garden for this year’s crop. Please see Mrs. Riviere or Mrs. Bird (or turn up on the day with your gloves and spade!).
