Main School

Warlingham Park operates a broad and balanced curriculum combining traditional teaching, concentrating particularly on the teaching of English, Mathematics and Science, with Modern Technology and Computer Studies. As children progress through the school they also enjoy a complete range of subjects from History, RE, Geography, Art, Music and Drama; to learning about the environment, cookery and taking part in community activities.

The school is divided into four houses and a system of house points provides a highly motivating approach to all aspects of school life. Reflecting the school's belief in a whole education, house points are given for effort as well as behaviour in all fields.

At the end of the year all the school takes part in Speech Day which is a celebration of the year where all the children are involved in a wonderful display of drama and music, plus the final of the annual poetry competition. Prizes are also awarded, throughout the school recognising excellence, effort and progress.

School policies

Details of all school policies can be obtained from the School Office. These include policies on admissions, discipline and behaviour, anti-bullying, and health and safety, as well as details of the school curriculum and complaints procedure. Particulars of academic performance and a summary of staff numbers and qualifications are also available.

Technology

Pupils at Warlingham Park School are encouraged, with the aid of our two fully equipped techonology suites, to develop their creativity and imagination by exploring the visual, tactile and sensory qualities of materials and processes.

Computer Studies are taught and by the age of nine most children have gained a high degree of computer literacy and are able to use many different types of software.

Infant pupils are taught to explore ideas and collect visual and other information to help them develop their work. Each year group completes five projects including, for example, making rod puppets, wind powered vehicles, a pizza and a weather vane.

Pupils in the Junior school draw on and use a variety of sources of information. They clarify their ideas through discussion, drawing and modelling. Again each year group completes five projects including, for example, making an animal clock face, an automaton, folding furniture (ergonomics) and controllable vehicles.

Music

Music benefits children in many ways and compliments many subjects.  The children learn the Kodaly method, helping to train their inner ear and develop the musical ear.  This approach gives every child confidence and the ability musically to enhance the rest of their lives.

Children may participate in the following clubs: Infant Choir, Junior Choir, Orchestra, Recorders, Fife and Sight Singing. A number of peripatetic teachers also come to the school offering private and group tuition in: piano, drums, woodwind, strings, brass and singing. The children have the opportunity to take graded exams.

The school choir perform many times throughout the year, including the O2 Arena, local events, local homes for the elderly, church, festivals, fairs, Fairfield Halls, and to help raise money for charity. Every year there are also music trips including the School’s Prom at the Royal Albert Hall.

Drama is very popular within the school and each term there is a musical production, with the annual School Concert at the end of the Summer Term.  Poetry competitions take place and pupils provide all the readings and original work at the termly church services. Sports and Games

On the games field, the children participate in many sports including soccer, netball, rugby, rounders, cricket, athletics and cross-country running as well as swimming which forms part of their physical education programme.

Matches are arranged against other local schools at all of these sports, at under 11 and under 9 ages, as well as some matches for under 8s. There are also clubs that take place after school. These include golf, badminton, bowls, short tennis, soccer and dance.

Languages

French is taught from the age of 7 as a conversational subject which develops into formal lessons higher up the school.  In the final year an elementary study of Latin is undertaken along with an introduction to Spanish.
