Main School

Warlingham Park operates a broad and balanced curriculum combining traditional teaching, concentrating particularly on the teaching of English, Mathematics and Science, with Modern Technology and Computer Studies. As children progress through the school they also enjoy a complete range of subjects from History, RE, Geography, Art, Music and Drama; to learning about the environment, cookery and taking part in community activities
The school is divided into four houses and a system of house points provides a highly motivating approach to all aspects of school life. Reflecting the school's belief in a whole education, house points are given for effort as well as behaviour in all fields.
At the end of the year all the school takes part in Speech Day which is a celebration of the year where all the children are involved in a wonderful display of drama and music, plus the final of the annual poetry competition. Prizes are also awarded, throughout the school recognising excellence, effort and progress.

Technology
Pupils at Warlingham Park School are encouraged, with the aid of our two fully equipped techonology suites, to develop their creativity and imagination by exploring the visual, tactile and sensory qualities of materials and processes.
Infant pupils are taught to explore ideas and collect visual and other information to help them develop their work. Each year group completes five projects including, for example, making rod puppets, wind powered vehicles, a pizza and a weather vane.
Pupils in the Junior school draw on and use a variety of sources of information. They clarify their ideas through discussion, drawing and modelling. Again each year group completes five projects including, for example, making an animal clock face, an automaton, folding furniture (ergonomics) and controllable vehicles.
Computer Studies are taught and by the age of nine most children have gained a high degree of computer literacy and are able to use many different types of software.

Music
Music benefits children in many ways and compliments many subjects. The children learn the Kodaly method, helping to train their inner ear and develop the musical ear. This approach gives every child confidence and ability musically to enhance the rest of their lives.
Children may participate in the following clubs: Infant Choir, Junior Choir, Orchestra, Recorders, Fife and Sight Singing. A number of peripatetic teachers also come to the school offering private and group tuition in: piano, drums, woodwind, strings, brass and singing. The children have the opportunity to take graded exams. The school choir perform many times throughout the year, including the O2 Arena, local events, local homes for the elderly, church, festivals, fairs, Fairfield Halls, and to help raise money for charity. Every year there are also music trips including the School’s Prom at the Royal Albert Hall. Drama is very popular within the school and each term there is a musical production, with the annual School Concert at the end of the Summer Term. Poetry competitions take place and pupils provide all the readings and original work at the termly church services. Preparation for Senior School
Children are prepared for entry at 11+ to all local independent schools as well as the maintained sector. The school works with the pupil and parents to choose the right school for each child whether that be to gain a music scholarship at a public school or to have a confident outlook to take to their local secondary school. Warlingham Park has an excellent scholarship record, both academic and otherwise over recent years.

Reports
The recent Ofsted inspection report compliments the school on its educational standards. It acknowledges that the curriculum helps pupils especially to acquire skills in speaking, listening, reading, writing and mathematics. It is enriched by a good language provision as well as good art and music, which is a particular strength of the school. There is a focus on DT which is much enjoyed by the pupils.
It also recognised that the pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is good. Pupils have good interpersonal skills and are confident, articulate and self-assured. Relationships with the staff and with each other are strong, reflecting a high level of mutual respect between the staff and the pupils.
Throughout the school, behaviour is outstanding. Pupils approach lessons with good levels of interest and concentration. They respond positively to praise and co-operate readily with their teachers and one another. The pupils are successfully helped to develop into lively and responsible young people and to prepare for their future economic and general well-being.
There are, as to be expected, areas to improve and the inspectors identified that although the school provides good day-to-day care for the pupils, the supporting policy documents did not contain the detail required by current legislation. All the points raised have now been addressed.
